Dialogic Sequence Analysis

Dialogical sequence analysis developed originally in CAT supervision. The trainees’ frequent questions how to recognise reciprocal roles in clients’ accounts of their daily problems and experiences required uncovering the path from utterances to repetitive action patterns. Another frequent problem was how to relate reciprocal roles with sequential descriptions. DSA emerged as a result of both issues.

The workshop will present  Bakhtin’s theory of utterance and the model of reciprocally mediated action sequences as the basic concepts of DSA.  Their practical use will be illustrated by excerpts from psychotherapy transcripts. Participants are encouraged to bring their own anonymised data to the workshop.

Workshop leader:  Mikael Leiman, Professor, PhD

President, European Chapter of Society for Psychotherapy Research

Honorary co-president, International Cognitive Analytic Therapy Association
